BLACK WOMEN ARE MORE LIKELY TO DIE FROM UTERINE AND OVARIAN CANCER THAN WHITE WOMEN.

African American & Black Women and Transgender Men in the USA have higher mortality rates + are more likely to die of ovarian cancer + uterine cancer than white women, despite white women having a higher incidence of both cancers.

The five year survival rate for Black women with uterine cancer is 63%.
.
The five year survival rate for white women with uterine cancer is 84%

And this part is the actual killer - the one that speaks to oppression and injustice in the system of healthcare:

When uterine cancer is diagnosed early, and it is localized, the 5-year survival rate is 95%.

Approx. 69% of white women are diagnosed at this early stage, compared to only 54% of Black women. šŸ’”

If uterine cancer is diagnosed after it has spread, the survival rate plummets to only 17%.

THIS is why health equity matters.

Black women & Transgender men are more likely to die, due to neglect, missed diagnosis, unrecognized symptoms, discriminatory medical professionals, and systemic barriers to accessing early care.

Similar stats can be found for LatinX women / Trans men. Iā€™m still searching for stats on Indigenous populations, and BIR communities in Canada.
